Birrieria Tijuana: Cheese Birria Tacos I Can’t Stop Thinking About

It’s dinner time and I need to decide what to make, but I can’t get the cheese tacos I had for lunch off my mind. I’ve been thinking of them all afternoon. They were crispy fried tacos made with two corn tortillas and melted CHEESE. Fried of course. I’ve had lots of tacos, but nothing like this, ever.

The first taco was with birria, tender beef that was marinated in chilis and stewed for 3 hours. Even though I was full after eating the first taco, I had another, a chicken cheese taco this time.

I added diced red onions, cilantro, lime and salsa to each taco. AND THEN dipped them in consume, the soup the birria is stewed in. The chicken cheese taco was good, but it was nothing compared to the birria. Yum!

These mind-blowing tacos were from Birrieria Tijuana. I had noticed the new restaurant on Casino Road in the old Keg location but had trouble finding the menu on the website. I figured I’d wait until the website was complete before checking them out and then BOOM, Birrieria Tijuana blew up on social media so I figured I had better check it out. They have two other locations so I’m guessing they haven’t had time to work on the website.

I went on a Sunday around noon and the parking lot was packed, this is likely because there is a lot of great food to be found at Casino Square. I was expecting that Birrieria Tijuana was just using a portion of the Keg building, but nope it’s a full-service restaurant and they turned the old bar into a take-out counter. I placed my order to go and had to wait about 15 minutes for them to cook up the awesomeness.

To say the menu is robust is an understatement. There are many types of tacos, burritos, quesadillas, tortas, asada fries, birrea ramen, vampiros, combo platters, smoothies, juices, churros and horchata. This is a restaurant I’ll be visiting again and again. I’ll need to work my way through the menu, but will probably always order a cheese birria taco.

Now I have to decide if I make spaghetti for dinner or go back for more cheese tacos.
