JAG ArtWorks has established a new space on Colby Avenue, and it’s a pretty big deal! The new spot has it all: a shop, gallery, and event space, all in one convenient location in the heart of downtown. The shop stocks impeccably organized spray paint cans, markers, and fine art supplies, along with local art and clothing selections. There’s a buzz of excitement around JAG, and rightfully so. Owner Jason Grim recently shared that JAG is the largest graffiti supply store in the Pacific Northwest! Yep, right here in Everett.

What started in Grim’s teeny 175 square foot artist loft on Hewitt eventually grew into an 850 square foot graffiti supply store and community space. With an increased interest in classes and community gatherings, it started to get pretty cramped. Grim, along with co-owner Natasha Nelson, knew it was time to expand. After some searching, they found their spot on Colby - all 1,850 square feet of it.

Grim is a Cultural Arts Commissioner for the City of Everett, and JAG is regularly involved in local art events, including Art Walk. He is an ambassador in the sense that he helps legitimize street art in the community and encourages people from all walks of life to pursue the arts.

JAG offers a location for street artists to hone their craft in a welcoming environment. “Graffiti is not about vandalism. Graffiti is about the art. Graffiti is about putting something beautiful where nothing beautiful existed before...If they’re given a time, a place, and the legality of doing it, they’re going to blow it out of the water, and they’re going to make something absolutely stunning.”

Every Monday, JAG hosts Art Life from 6 pm - 9 pm. Community members can bring personal projects or work on the weekly themed activity. The idea is to get people together and inspire each other’s creativity. The shop provides materials, and all are welcome.

JAG also offers classes and plans to expand their selection into other mediums now that they have more space to facilitate larger groups. The most popular class is typography, which covers essential skills with a bit of history on street art. HYPER, a local artist, teaches an advanced 6-week typography course offering in-depth history and detailed lettering techniques.

JAG continues to grow into a community hub, cultivating the next generation of Everett artists. With Nelson and Grim at the helm, the possibilities seem endless. And of course, their selection of art supplies is top-notch!
