Live in Everett Member Profile: ESC Mattress Center

We’re super thankful to our Live in Everett Members - local organizations who have stepped up to help make Live in Everett possible.

ESC Mattress Center has been open in South Everett for 3 years and we caught up with Co-owner William Wellauer to learn what they are all about.

How did your organization first get started?

Joshua Rigsby and I disagreed with how the nation’s largest mattress retailer (mattress firm) did business after buying out Sleep Country USA so we quit to open our own store where we can help people sleep better.

What’s your mission?

To help Snohomish County sleep better so they wake up rested and ready to take on their day.

Why should people choose you? Or, what makes you different?

Aside from being the highest-rated (5-stars) mattress store in Everett and winning the Herald’s “best mattress store” every year we’ve been open, we have over twenty years of experience helping people sleep better and an almost obsessive commitment to customer service.

Why did you choose Everett?

We live here and want to help build a strong community by being a good partner to our local community.

What's your favorite thing about your organization or what you do?

Sleep is a third of your life that dramatically affects the other two-thirds of your life.  We feel that helping people sleep better helps the world be a slightly less grumpy place.

What is the most challenging thing your organization has had to overcome?

Figuring out how to get people to realize we’re here. Almost every person who comes in tells us how glad they are they found us, but we don’t have the hundreds of millions of dollars to advertise that other companies do.

Anything you wish more locals knew about your organization?

That we’re here with the best prices and best selection in the county!

Your most important values?

Customer service, commitment to excellence in all we do.

Favorite thing you've done to give back to the community?

We partner with the non-profit “Clothes for Kids” and set aside part of our advertising budget to promote their amazing organization. We 100% sponsored Undie Sunday with the Silvertips last year which helped collect over 3500 clothing items for Clothes for Kids and Cocoon House.

What can Everett expect from you in the future?

We’re working with the local legislature to try and pass a law to make it illegal to sell used beds without disclosing that they’re used (yes, there are stores that do that, unfortunately).

What's your favorite thing about Everett?

There is just so much here! It’s such a diverse and eclectic city.

Favorite place to eat in Everett?

We are 100% street taco addicts and our current favorite El Nopal on 128th.

Favorite place to hang in Everett?

We both have young kids so Funko and Imagine Children’s Museum are some of our top haunts (well, they used to be before 2020…)

Anything else we forgot or that you'd like to mention?

We’re passionate about helping people sleep better so I’m sure I forgot something, but I could talk about sleep wellness all day so… no we’re probably good.
