More Than a Gym: The YMCA Helps Out

At the Everett YMCA a group of cancer survivors is staying strong.

They work out together. But more importantly, they have each other and the strength that comes in numbers.

They are with other people who have experienced the difficulties of a chronic illness: the anger, and resentment of grappling with a serious ailment.

The cancer survivors' group is one of fifteen programs offered to the community by the Y.

The YMCA is much more than a gym.

They have a program that teaches third graders to swim for free. They have a program that teaches English to non-native speakers. They have a program that combats childhood obesity.

Members of the YMCA's cancer survivors group participate in fun runs together.

51% of youth enrolled in the Everett YMCA's various programs are able to do so because their membership is subsidized. That equals $180,000 of subsidized funds in 2017.

This month the Y is starting their annual campaign to raise money for their programs. They begin their campaign with a kickoff event on Saturday, February 10th at the Everett YMCA. The event goes from 5:30 - 7 pm and features food, testimonials, and kids activities.
