Hottest Sax in Everett

World Wide Sax in Everett is known internationally as a purveyor of fine instruments.

To be clear: these aren’t your typical dented and corroded band class starter horns. These are the Rolls Royce of saxophones. If you want a solid band class instrument, this is the place to go.

It's sort of an "insider knowledge"-type deal. Someone told me about them and I emailed. They said to stop by.

The showroom.

Chadd Berry, thirty-three-year-old business owner, is the man behind World Wide Sax. A good guy with a sharp ear. He runs a tight ship, delivering the goods to customers both regionally and around the globe.

Chadd's in the biz of preserving history by rebuilding fine instruments. He carefully adds keys, swaps out reeds, refinishes silver, and more— anything to get the 'phones back to pristine condition. A look at his tool-covered workbenches indicates his level of craftsmanship.

Here he is playing a little number:

I found myself drawn into the ornate artistry of the saxophones— the etchings on the bells, the craftsmanship of the mother-of-pearl keys. I never realized saxophones were so beautiful.

Dig some of these shiny models. A 1927 Art Deco sax. A 1962 Bb tenor. Here's a Selmer Mark 6 that Chadd calls "the Fender Start of saxophones."

Think of the jazz and swing numbers belted out by these horns. It’s interesting to think of these instruments as receptacles of long-lost ghost songs... or something like that. And they’re being made to sing again.

In a throwaway world this small biz is lovingly restoring fine musical instruments meant to last beyond a mere human lifespan.

That's music to my ears.
