Three Cheers for the Red, White, and Rosé at Waterfront Wines

What do you do when much of your business comes from hosting events but all events are virtual for the foreseeable future? Bluewater Organic Distilling had a great idea: turn that space into a wine shop. Now when you arrive, you'll find shelf after shelf of wonderful wines inside, plus a cooler up front for whites, rosés, and grab-and-go snacks and desserts.

Chief Brand Officer Samantha Hill gave me all the details. Most importantly, the staff at Bluewater tasted every bottle they sell to ensure they're all delicious. Most of their selections (over 100!) are made with organic grapes and are sustainably produced, which has always been an important part of the Bluewater business model.

She asked what type of wine I usually prefer, and I gave my usual answer: something red and cheap. Their selections range from $9-$45, so she grabbed me one of the last bottles of Prunus Private Selection from the shelf. It's delicious and a great deal at $9, so it's no wonder they've sold so many.

The Distiller's Cellar is their wine club; join for a monthly selection of six wines worth $152 for only $125. It includes a free coupon for corkage--which normally costs $10--plus a %15 off coupon to use in the restaurant.

Members and non-members alike can also enjoy a bottle of wine with no corkage fee during their Social Hour, Tuesday-Friday from noon-3 p.m. With bottles as low as $9 and great deals on food, it's a perfect way to enjoy the last sunny days on their fantastic expanded patio. If it's too cold, find a spot in the wine shop or the lounge, both of which have spaced out tables, some with partitions hanging.

If you're buying wine, check out their mix and match special. Any six bottles of wine and spirits are 10% off, which is a deal you may be familiar with from grocery stores, but only for wine. I didn't need to pick up that much, but I wanted to check out the new fall menu and grab my first-ever mixed drink to go. My dinner was the pepita crusted salmon and grains, which tasted exactly like what you'd expect to get if you were rich and had a personal chef. Pops of flavor from the lime vinaigrette and sun-dried tomatoes were a perfect way to liven up the hearty quinoa, kale, and roasted root vegetables.

The burger was just what you'd want when ordering one in an upscale restaurant. Thick, smoky, and juicy with cheese, grilled onions, roasted poblano, and more. I was glad I asked for the garlic aioli on the side because that helped it travel well. And don't be sad they don't serve fries. You can get them anywhere but nobody else has roasted fingerling potatoes like theirs.
