Cooking Up Fun Close-by: Table for 12

When you add sunshine to our streets and trails around Everett, it becomes just a little bit magical.

The same can actually be said about Edmonds, our smaller neighbor to the south. Maybe it's a cities that start with an E thing or, more likely, charming places close to our Salish Sea. Whatever it is, I have something educational and fun to share today that you can find in Edmonds.

This little discovery is called Table for 12. It's a kitchen studio that offers cooking classes for 12. Thus the name.

Recently, my very best friend, Tina, who happens to be English, treated me to a delectable evening of cooking delights at Table for 12. Our theme for the evening was a Royal British Feast featuring beef tenderloin with side dishes of cauliflower soup and duck fat potatoes and finished up with sticky toffee pudding. We were being led and inspired by our instructor Chef Chad (an Everett resident.)

For this evening, there were ten of us gathered around the big kitchen bar that can seat 12. Chef Chad first took us through some kitchen and knife safety tips. From there, he divided us up to different cooking stations. Tina and I landed on the main dish.

Such fun! We had a recipe to follow and great instructions, but the cooking was up to each of us. From time to time, Chef Chad would stop the kitchen action to demonstrate a technique or share a shortcut. We were busy for a couple of hours bringing it all together. Best of all, while we got to learn and cook - and eat - we didn't have to do the dishes.

At the end of the evening, when everything was off the stovetop or out of the oven, we sat down together and enjoyed what we had pulled together. It was delicious! Even my English bestie gave it all an enthusiastic thumbs up.

The other friendly participants that evening had all been to numerous classes at Table for 12. I was the only first-timer. There were couples there for date night and others, like the two of us, were there with a good friend for an evening of gastronomic delight.

I would love for Everett to get its own kitchen studio offering classes. We’ve had places in the past. In the meantime, Edmonds is not far away, and Table for 12 is worth the short drive. You need to sign up ahead but be warned! There are lots of tempting choices. The menu varies night to night and registration is online.  I’m going again - for Moroccan food next time - and would love to see you there!
