Women composers are the focus of the next Mukilteo Community Orchestra concert on Sunday, March 8th. The 2:00 pm free concert at the Rosehill Community Center will feature works by three 19th and 20th century composers in celebration of International Women’s Day,
The pieces include Andromède by French composer Augusta (Mary Anne) Holmès, Faust Overture Op. 46 by German romantic music composer Emilie Luise Friderica Mayer, and Gaelic Symphony (Symphony in E minor, Op. 32) by Amy Marcy Cheney Beach, which was the first symphony composed and published by a female American composer.
A pre-concert lecture by Dr. Felicia Youngblood, Assistant Professor of Musicology at Western Washington University and Trevor Lutzenhiser, Mukilteo Community Orchestra Conductor and Artistic Director, will be at 1:20 pm.
