Everett Philharmonic Orchestra | Listener’s Choice Concert

  • Everett Civic Auditorium 2415 Colby Avenue Everett, WA, 98201 United States (map)

Please join the Everett Philharmonic Orchestra for our season finale. Dr. Paul-Elliot Cobbs will two of Aaron Copland’s most popular works: Fanfare for the Common Man and Appalachian Spring, as well as additional works by Beethoven and American composer Wayne Barlow.

This concert, graciously sponsored by Northwest LED Lighting, is our annual selection of audience favorites in the “Listener’s Choice” concert. At the outset of the concert, Copland’s Fanfare for the Common Man gives a spine-tingling affirmation of the strength of the “Common Man” – much in evidence in our lives in these turbulent times. His beloved Appalachian Spring is a more comforting and joy-filled reminder of happy seasons that lie ahead of us.

After intermission the Everett Phil’s principal oboist Laurie Swanson will be featured in American composer Wayne Barlow’s The Winter’s Passed. Barlow’s most enduring work is a neoclassical fantasy based on southern folk tunes inspired by a verse from the Songs of Solomon. We’ll end the afternoon and close out our season with Beethoven’s bright and cheery Symphony No. 6. In this pastoral symphony, we’ll join Beethoven on a walk in the countryside outside Vienna to a babbling brook and merry gathering, briefly interrupted by a thunderstorm before enjoying a shepherd’s song played in thanks for the warm sun of spring.
