The Everett Philharmonic presents gems spanning three decades of Mozart’s all too brief life.
We’ll begin with the 16-year-old’s rarely performed opening to the Lucio Silla, a masterpiece that more closely identifies as a symphony in miniature than a traditional overture. Next, you’ll witness the 31-year-old’s love for dance in his ebullient Six German Dances. Then Mary Jensen, the talented principal flutist from Symphony Tacoma, will perform one of the most beloved concertos for her instrument, Mozart’s first flute concerto. Her virtuosity and musicality will leave audiences breathless. We’ll close with the 17-year-old’s “little” symphony in G minor, a composition full of Sturm und Drang (Storm and Stress), achingly beautiful pastoral themes and a macabre minuet. Mozart rarely composed in minor keys, but when he did fire and brimstone arose from the musicians’ instruments.
