About Devours:
A quick introduction for new followers: my name is Devours, and my music exists somewhere within the unholy trinity of electroclash, hyperpop and darkwave. I have released 4 albums: Late Bloomer (2016), Iconoclast (2019), Escape from Planet Devours (2021), and Homecoming Queen (2023). They're all very personal and I love them dearly.
Aside from the occasional pro photo shoot, such as the one above (for this month's Discorder Magazine), this project is a DIY affair - writing and recording, mixing and mastering, graphic design, photos, album artwork, etc.
On the surface, I am a gaylien character who fled Urth to create a utopia on a separate planet that I called Planet Devours. When my planet ceased to exist, I was forced to return to your heinous planet where no one communicates properly and a new war starts every 5 minutes.
Under the surface, my music is about identity, masculinity, gay politics, aging, and nostalgia.
I slipped through the cracks in my 20's, moving cities and launching numerous projects that never took off. Devours has been the story of my adult life - from coming out late, to navigating Vancouver's knotty music and gay scenes, to surviving the game and its endless twists.
