Gluten-Free Eats in Everett

Editor’s note: Originally published September 19, 2019. Updated January 23, 2020.

I would never choose to have Celiac Disease or not eat wheat, but the fad of being gluten-free has worked well to create more dining options for people who do need to eat that way. I’ve been eating gluten-free in Everett since 2011 and much like the city itself, the landscape has changed drastically since then.

I eat on the go a lot and often have evening work commitments, so I’ve found some restaurants that make my favorite foods and are gluten-free friendly.

K-Fresh

Every single item on the menu is gluten-free (dairy and nut-free too) and delicious! This build your own Korean bibimbap has a crispy rice layer made by the hot stone bowl it’s heated in. You pick your own protein and five tasty toppings. There are several sauces you can drizzle on as you like once you get your meal and I promise you will love everything you try. You can learn more about K Fresh and the awesome mother-daughter duo that runs it in this article from our friends at the Daily Everett Herald.

My favorite:  white rice with beef or chicken, cucumber salad, broccoli, mushrooms, carrots and garlic with soy sauce and medium hot sauce.

Avocados

Mexican food is pretty easy for gluten-free friends as a general rule but Avocado’s knocks it out of the park with their aim for healthier Mexican food. The food is not too oily, the vegetables are absolutely delicious and the service is incredible. I’ve loved going here for years with my family and friends. If you’re a long-time local you will recognize that the building used to be a popular ski shop.

My favorite: shrimp fajitas with corn tortillas and a mojito.

OTHER OPTIONS

Although I mourn the loss of Janelle’s Gluten-Free Market on Evergreen, most grocers have adjusted to the demand for gluten-free products! I love to go to the Sno-Isle Food Co-op as often as I can but most of the time end up going to Safeway and Trader Joe’s. At Safeway, every item in the store that is gluten-free is labeled in bright orange on the price tag. Since I shop for one person most of the time, the price difference is negligible on most items, however, Safeway has great Just For U sales on things like gluten-free pasta. Trader Joe’s is where you can find a wider variety of snacks and specialty sauces that are safe to eat on a gluten-free diet.

Overall, Everett is a pretty great place to be gluten-free or to visit, so try it out sometime.
