Have you ever had the experience when you’re going about your normal day, in your normal way, and then BAM! you see something that’s been there a long time, but you just never noticed it before?

Sound Pathways, an organization that has been supporting our community for over 50 years, was like that for me. While they started out helping the community address the rise of substance abuse in 1969 with the help of only volunteers, over the years they have expanded to provide a variety of referrals and treatment support options.

They’re located right on Hewitt Ave and offer a very wide range of community support. They offer resources for Alcoholism and Drug Addiction Treatment and Support Act (ADATSA) services, child care so parents can participate in treatment, adolescence and family services, AIDS outreach, school evaluations, pregnancy outreach, and so much more

They also include several programs to support at-risk moms and children including:

  • The Parent-Child Assistance Program (PCAP). The goal of this program is to end children being exposed to alcohol and/or drugs in-utero.

  • Emergency Shelter to Educate and Empower Mothers (ESTEEM) that provides wrap-around services to support recovering mothers experiencing homelessness

  • Amerigroup Supportive Housing Program (Amerigroup). This program helps men and women in Snohomish County find and secure permanent housing. Case Managers partner with clients for six months to work through the challenges they have had in securing housing.

  • Syringe Services Program (SSP). Distribution of harm reduction supplies and referral support. Since May 2021, almost a million syringes have been exchanged.

Working with over 125 families every month, this organization is devoted to helping individuals access the tools and resources they need to reach their full potential, as well as to develop “attitudes and behaviors that support sobriety”. While they are often able to provide these services through grants and partnerships with other non-profits in the area, like Catholic Community Services and Evergreen Recovery Center, help is still needed.

You can support this trailblazing community organization by donating diapers, clothes, and other commonly needed items in addition to cash.

Like so many organizations in our community, Sound Pathways goes above and beyond for our neighbors to ensure people have access to the support they need. It’s up to us to do our part to make sure they can continue to provide these resources so every family in Snohomish County can be healthy, happy, and safe.

You can also support Sound Pathways by purchasing a flower basket from their Second Annual Mother’s Day Flower Fundraiser.
