Streatery Goodness: Free Curbside Tai-Chi, and more!

Have you ever tried Tai Chi... on the side of the street in Downtown Everett?

Thanks to Body & Brain Yoga, now you can. For free!

Classes are in closed parking spaces right in front of Body & Brain at the corner of Rucker Ave and California. This outdoor space is provided compliments of the City of Everett’s new Streatery program. The Streatery program is open to any business in Everett in need of some extra outdoor space. Whether it be on the sidewalk, taking over parking spaces in the street, or both.

Current businesses that have signed up to participate in the Streatery program to expand outdoor services include (as of September 3rd, 2020):

Cafe Zippy

Independent Beer Bar

Capers and Olives

Anchor Pub

Body and Brain

Planted (coming soon)

Golden Fleece (coming soon)

With restaurants having to limit seating, and while we still have some nice weather to enjoy, the Streatery program couldn’t be happening at a better time. Get out and support our local businesses while enjoying some fresh air.

I know I enjoyed trying out my first Tai Chi class at Body & Brain Yoga last week.

Something about finding your chi while swirling your hips street-side feels so wrong that it can’t not be right.

The class I attended was taught by a kind gentleman, Richard. He has been teaching Tai Chi, “longer than I can remember,” he shared with a smile.

The class lasted about 35-40 minutes and was a nice introduction for someone like me, who has never done Tai Chi before. It was a little hard for me at first not to be self-conscious and think about the cars at the stoplight; likely staring at us wondering what the heck we were doing. My self-conscious thoughts were quickly replaced with a smile, though, as I remembered exactly what I was doing - learning a new exercise in the open air. What’s better than that!

All of the exercises were low intensity, as the flyer said, “classes will feature some parts of joint opening, Qi Gong, energy movement, and/or basic form so you can experience some parts of mindful healing martial art form with different instructors.”

Every weekday at 12:30 for the month of September Body & Brain Yoga is offering a free Tai Chi class. The classes would likely work great for anyone between the ages of 8-88. Classes are limited to 5 people, though, so call 425-512-9277 to reserve your spot today. Go enjoy some fresh air while supporting our local businesses!
