Films to Watch Now - August Recommendations

Films to Watch Now From Home
A really inspiring film is “The Shining Star of Losers Everywhere.” This is about a racehorse named Haru Urara that never won a race, but saved a racetrack in Japan. This horse also inspired an entire nation during a time of economic decline. It is 18 minutes of pure inspiration.

In 2003, Japan was plunged into economic darkness, and its people needed a ray of hope. They found one in Haru Urara, a racehorse with a pink Hello Kitty mask and a career-long losing streak. Between: Living in the Hyphen is a 43 minute film about 7 Canadians of mixed heritage. In the interviews each talks about the challenges they have encountered in their daily lives. This film is a window on the future of North Americans as we become more entwined culturally and racially. You can view it here.

Short Film Competition
