How is a Sensory-Friendly performance different?
A Sensory-Friendly performance is unique in a variety of ways, including:
- Written resources and “social stories” are provided up front online and at the box office that help prepare children and their families for the performance ahead of time.
- It will be acceptable to stand, walk, talk or fidget.
- House lights stay partially lit during the performance.
- Audio cue volumes are reduced or eliminated.
- Lighting effects that are strobe like, sudden or glaring are reduced or eliminated.
- There is general admission seating, allowing the families to choose where they want to sit.
- The generous seating at the Civic Auditorium allows ample space between audience members.
- Designated “Away Space” for those who might feel overwhelmed and need a minute to self-regulate.
