Using birds as our theme, we will use glass paints to transfer sketches onto glass discs. Student pieces will be fired in the kiln, slumped into molds to create small bowls. These personal bowls can be used for salt, jewelry, spices or those treasures we find along the beach.
This simple process is a way to make a variety of marks on glass and drawings can be altered with a variety of tools.
2. Students will learn the basics of kiln working, i.e. fusing and shaping glass in a kiln.
Instructor will provide lots of bird images and as a birder, will discuss ways to draw a variety of birds. She'll also bring examples of glass and molds for students to handle.
Each student will make 2 small glass bowls with bird drawings. The bowls are approximately 3" in diameter.
Instructor will provide precut glass discs, glass paints and will do the firings in her Ballard studio. Pieces will be ready to pick up at the Schack in one week.
