Mar 31 & Apr 7, Saturdays 10 am-4:30 pm
This class will focus on introducing students to sculptural flameworking in borosilcate glass with an emphasis on creating creatures both real and fantastic. We will touch upon elements such as texture, proportion, and structure to inform our skills and where and how we apply different hot working techniques to get the best possible results. We won't be focusing on photo realism but working on the basics and having a good time with them.
Students will learn how to use planning and proportion to allow for reductive sculpting, how to best utilize premade parts and pieces to enhance a sculpture, and how small tool marks can add detail that creates just enough realism to make a creature look right.
Students will make a few simple sculptures on the first day as they warm up and then make a more elaborate sculpture of their own design on the second day.
