Image-transfers are a fun and magical way of creating an artwork using your own images, pictures from magazines, or text from newspaper print.
This technique can add texture and interesting imperfections to your images that give them a romantic quality. You can transform almost anything into an original image transfer art piece. Surfaces like ceramic tile, wood, glass, canvas, cloth bags, clothing, etc., are all good starting points to build your transfers on. What makes this technique special is that each transfer is unique because each piece is handmade. And if you like collaging, you can build a seamless work out of multiple transfers or add other materials for added dimension. The creative process is uniquely yours, to be as simple or as complex as you want it to be.
Students will learn:
- How to work with acrylic gel mediums (or Modge Podge) and brayers tools (rollers)
- How to prep different surfaces for transferring images
- - how to lift images from paper, transparencies, magazine, and news prints, adhering them to your surface and burnishing them to complete the transfers
- To carefully compose, and incorporate additional materials into your piece
- To thoughtfully work within a theme, complementing colors, textures, words, and shapes
