Women of EVT to Raise $$$ for KSER

Saturday! Drink a macchiato, do pushups, and eat 2 whole wheat bagels b/c you’ll need to pace yourself.

Five women-filled bands will take the stage at The Anchor Pub in concert that will benefit our beloved local radio station KSER. KSER is independent & listener supported, home of The Stereo Wire and Last Exit. If don’t have 90.7 dialed in on your radio right this minute you’re doing it wrong.

Sleepover Club.

The big show kicks off with vendors at The Anchor from 6-8:30. Vendors like Whiskey Knits, Ink To My Elbows, Sierra Rozario, Sisters Press, Bayside Birth, and more. Bring ca$h.

There will be booths with friendship bracelets, glitter, poetry, and a nail polish bar.

At 9:00 the music starts. (Note: the Anchor is an all-ages venue until 11 PM. At 11 sharp all attendees under 21 must exit. Just FYI.)

MUSICAL LINEUP

Kelsey Hopkins: Acoustic songstress with an edge, a self-proclaimed 'garbage girl' with powerful pipes.

Sleepover Club: Sierra Rosario and Katee Brown are the women in this band. Sierra is a graphic designer who made the poster for the show. The Sleepover Club plays music that jangles and grunges.

goawaysun: Hilary McGowen is a DJ at KSER! Check out her show Soundopolis Saturdays at 12:30AM. As her radio persona Hilary plays synth, Italio, disco, post pop, punk, new wave, chill wave, soul, surf and more. IRL she makes danceable electronic beats.

Christa Porter of the Porters: A clarion voice and a plucked ukulele. Is she songbird a or a poet? Yes. Both. Christa will be joined on stage by her friend/collaborator Stephanie Thompson who will be playing flute.

Laüra: A genuine Everett supergroup. Mary Adams from Oliver Elf Army on guitar, Sarah Feinberg of Tellers on drums, and Laura Chism (pianist, owner of Milltown Creative) on bass guitar. Word is they’ll be playing music that’s on the rock side of the spectrum.

WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO BE A WOMAN OF EVERETT?

I think this is an important show at an important time. Everett’s next mayor will be female— either  Judy Tuohy, Executive Director of the Schack Art Center or Cassie Franklin, CEO of Cocoon House. This is awesome.

Here are some of the musicians, in their own words:

"There needs to be more women playing music in Everett and by playing this show we hope to inspire some." -Mary Adams

"As DJ goawaysun, I get to share my own unique perspective on music. KSER is the only full-powered public radio station in the county, supported by volunteers and listeners. Through uniting and honoring the diversity within our own local music scene, KSER is an important part of the community. I'm proud to be a woman in music on air and around town." - Hilary McGowen

"Everett has proven to be an empowering hub and home for artists and art appreciators. I am thankful for the opportunities, encouragement, and friendships I have found or witnessed within the art community here. That the women of this city are being distinctively celebrated is exquisite." - Christa Porter

MOXY.

What is moxy? It's guts. It's chutzpah. It's the resourcefulness that's borne from gritty city life that fosters resilience. It’s something the Women of Everett have in spades. From the pioneering female engineers who assembled planes at Boeing, to the tough-as-nails mayoral candidates taking on a drug epidemic. Moxy.

Come and see it this Saturday night. Tickets are a $5 suggested donation, going to ya boys & girls at KSER. Feel free to pay more if you love independent radio & sweet sweet karma.

Check out/share the FB page here. The Anchor Pub is at 1001 Hewitt Ave, Everett, Washington 98201. Or, just head east on Hewitt. It's the last stop on the right before the water.

Follow the jamz.
