What's the Story: Hydrology Stand Up Paddle
There are tons of fun paddleboarding opportunities happening this Summer. We've always heard great things about local company, Hydrology Stand Up Paddle, so we shot the owners a few questions to get a better idea about all of the paddleboarding goodness they offer.
Who are you and what do you do? You guys have a local paddle boarding company, right?
Hey! Yes, We are Dave and Erin Matthews of Hydrology Stand Up Paddle! We are owner operators bringing SUP rentals, classes, lessons, tours, special events, and SUPyoga (indoor & outdoor with Catalyst Yoga).
We are a mobile operation: City of Everett at Silver Lake, Forest park pool, the Port of Everett, Edgewater beach and Kamiak High School Pool in Mukilteo and Snohomish Aquatic center. We sponsor and put on the SUP race at Aquafest in Lake Stevens, joined with Lululemon for a fundraising event benefiting Monster & Sea, SUP N SIP with Bluewater Distillery, Hike N SUP, and Women's weekend SUP and yoga retreats with stellar life coach and yoga instructors (Infinite Balance & Catalyst Yoga)
It seems like stand up paddleboarding has gotten really popular in recent years. Is it a new thing?
Paddleboarding has been around for a very long time. It's only in the last 10 years that it has gained momentum. It offers fresh new experiences even to experienced paddlers.
How long have you been running Hydrology Stand Up Paddle for?
We are stoked to be starting our 3rd year.
What was your inspiration to start your company?
A life long love of all things water then falling in love with SUP and wanting to share that with our community.
What do you enjoy most about what you do?
We love watching people conquer new experiences and getting them in touch with their surroundings. You have to be super mindful about being in the moment while on the board. It's very rewarding for us to tailor each experience meeting people were they are in the process of learning to paddle.
We know you do a lot of different classes and events in the greater Everett area. Which event or class do you enjoy doing most?
All of our events and classes are unique and rewarding. We enjoy them all.
If someone has never paddled before, why should they try it? Is it hard for beginners? How many times per day do you fall in?
Paddling is fun and exhilarating but yet can be peaceful and serene. Is it hard for beginners? People show up with different skill sets but it can be easily achieved. Falling in... Dave prefers to be in the water by pushing limits and trying new things... lol... I prefer to stay on my board.
What is this SUP & SIP event with Bluewater Distilling all about?
It's about treating yourself to a great paddle and the best drink in town.
Any Last words?

Thanks so much to Erin and Dave for taking the time to do this quick interview with us. We love all the fun stuff they're providing to our community. Make sure you go and paddle with them this Summer... we're thinking we may have to catch a couple of these SUP N' SIP events down at Bluewater.
Happy paddling,
