An Everett Bar with European Flair: Marcel

I was feeling with it and cool this week when we popped in for a cocktail at all-new, all-welcoming Marcel in downtown Everett. As their website calls it out, Marcel is the new go-to hangout for urban pros and community lovers to relax and connect, inspired by European bars. I'd say I'm definitely a community lover but I'm also just a person always looking for somewhere comfortable to hang with good friends and Marcel fills that for sure.

Marcel opened right next door to Petrikor on Rucker Avenue, the very cool home and garden spot helping to elevate Everett area shopping. Marcel offers both booths and high and low tables. It's got a nice low-key, uncluttered kind of feel to it. Oh, and to be clear, Marcel is a bar and for those 21 and over.
Which is really a shame because Marcel offers some very nice non-alcoholic selections. Mocktails are growing ever-popular and this is a great spot for those seeking some refreshment while still being the designated driver for a fun night out in Everett. They even offer French press coffee which I love.
The five of us there on a Thursday afternoon grabbed a booth right after they opened and were quickly met by John Michael who gave us good insights as to what we might want to order. We had a lot of curiosity about the orange wines on the menu. No, they don't taste like oranges they just have an orange hue for how they are processed, John Michael helped us understand. If we wanted something citrussy - and I did - he recommended a fun spritzer so that's what I had. One of our party ordered another spritzer made with a port and peppercorns(!); we had two beers (that turned into four so they could try something different); and one red wine described as "rich and full of personality."

We didn't order any food, though there are a few light snack choices. Even better, at one point, a group of friends came in for drinks carrying a big basket of picnic foods which Marcel welcomes. They ordered a bottle of wine and unloaded their basket. Voila! A perfect out-of-the-cold winter picnic just like that.
Mostly, what our group of five had was a whole lot of fun while we sipped and gulped and talked everything from bigfoots to ufo's to cable costs and the crazy state of politics today. We enjoyed our drinks, schemed on our choices for the next time we visit, and will absolutely pop into Marcel again and again.
