New Everett YMCA Groundbreaking Recap
Last Saturday, June 9th, was an exciting day for the Glacier View neighborhood and anyone who enjoys lolling in an indoor lazy river.
The Everett YMCA hosted a community celebration in honor of the groundbreaking of the brand new Y, complete with golden shovels and aptly decorated cupcakes.
Set to open in the fall of 2019 at 4730 Colby Avenue, this new building will better serve the community with its accessible design, much-needed space for growing fitness classes, and two pools for local swim meets and splashy fun.
Other highlights include:
- 260 parking spots (!!!)
Aquatic Center with Lazy River, Lap Pool & Warm Water Therapy Pool
Cardio & Strength Training room
Child Watch & Adventure Zone
Gymnasium
Cycle/Sport Performance Studio
Indoor Running Track
Nutrition Center
Private Changing Rooms
As an added bonus, it will also give Snohomish County's Big Brothers and Big Sisters a permanent place to call home, something they have needed for over five years.
But wait, there's more. The goodness keeps rolling with a brand new city-ran park on the same lot, a partnership that will allow Everett residents to use the YMCA's swim facilities for a special price.
Details on this are still being ironed out, including the cost and name of the park, but seeing the city partner with a community stakeholder as inspiring as the YMCA is, well, inspiring.
Good people doing good things for a great community. I dig it (pun intended).
What will happen to the old YMCA building in the downtown core is still a mystery, but its presence downtown for the past 100 years should be commended. I mean, the building has literally been through fire and back.
One thing is clear about this $33 million project: it's sure to change Everett for the better.
