Everett Music Initiative dropped what could be the strongest Fisherman’s Village Music Festival lineup last week. Here's nine local bands to get hyped for.

1. Leava

While he may be a Seattle act now, Simon Nicol started Leava in Everett and still has strong ties to Milltown, producing releases from local bands like TELLERS, NODRA and Oliver Elf Army. Nicol’s brand of electronic music is wonderfully introspective and pulses with gloomy energy. Don’t miss him.

2. Oliver Elf Army

Full disclosure - I play bass in this band, but before OEA asked me to join them I was a fan (and still am!). Mary and Martin Adams create perfect, smart slacker-pop songs that remind you of how local music was before it became all about how many Instagram followers your band has.

3. Sleepover Club

Everett femme art-punk band Sleepover Club has enjoyed a meteoric rise since playing their first show almost a year ago. From playing regularly with Seattle DIY superpower Mommy Long Legs to opening for Screaming Females, Sleepover Club’s rocket is about to take off. Be sure to catch them now so you can brag to your friends that you saw the three-piece before any of your friends.

4. Fuzz Mutt

They may be young, but Fuzz Mutt embodies deliciously greasy rock ‘n roll. Grungy, sludgy and full of hooks, Fuzz Mutt and their live show is not to be missed. Think Superfuzz Bigmuff-era Mudhoney. Yeah. That cool.

5. Nail Houses

Manic, dark and complex, one-man act Nail Houses delivers electronic-backed punk songs with fervor and menace. Rumor around town is that he has something special planned for Fisherman’s. I wouldn’t miss it if I were you.

6. Goawaysun

Besides being the host of Soundopolis on KSER FM, Goawaysun creates music that would be at home in both an 1970’s Italian disco nightclub or an absurdist meme. Mixing pop-culture with sometimes serious and often hilarious themes, Goawaysun is one of Everett’s uncovered musical gems.

7. Sphyramid

Sphyramid has been DJing in Everett before it was cool, and his chops prove that he’s been in the game for a long time. Whether it’s playing his own original compositions or mixing together an eclectic mix of Japanese 80’s pop songs, Sphyramid knows exactly how to make the crowd vibe out.

8. The Porters

You may recognize one-half of this husband-and-wife duo as Live in Everett blogger Richard Porter. He and his wife Christa craft beautifully cute folky pop songs that will not leave your head. If you need a break from squealing guitars and 808 drums, seek out The Porters to give you a bit of a refresher.

9. The Moon Is Flat

Into spaced-out jam solos? Like your live shows with copious amounts of fog machine fog? The Moon is Flat is for you. Signed to Everett label Soniphone Records, The Moon is Flat released their excellent jammed-out EP last year and it’s the perfect companion to semi-grey Everett days.
