Uber Eats Newbie Orders From Basil Authentic Vietnamese Cuisine

I don’t eat out a lot because I’m pretty frugal and do a lot of cooking at home. With the Covid-19 outbreak, I have been doing a lot more takeout to support our local businesses so I decided to give one of the food delivery services a try.

I can not recall ever having food delivered to my home, not even pizza. I guess I figure if I’m not going to cook, at the very least I should drive and pick up my food.

My views on delivery have shifted a little recently. A couple of months ago I really needed some things from the grocery store to make dinner, but my day was very busy. I had an Amazon gift card so I logged on to Amazon and in a few minutes had ordered groceries from Whole Foods. A couple of hours later they arrived on my doorstep - saving me close to an hour with drive time factored in. Brilliant.

I chose Uber Eats for my delivery service experiment, for no particular reason, and Basil because it is delicious. It took less than 5 minutes to download the app, figure out what my family wanted to eat and get the order submitted.

I almost selected pick-up but got over my hang-up and selected delivery.

Then I waited and watched the app

Next thing I know, my order was dropped off on my doorstep.

As I was unpacking dinner, I realized one of the reasons I don’t like takeout is the Styrofoam packaging. Until recently there had been Styrofoam recycling at the Snohomish County WSU Extension Office, in McCollum Park, but I just learned that they are no longer accepting styrofoam. So for now, I will continue to wash the containers out, cut the lids and bottoms apart so they stack neatly and keep them in the garage until I find somewhere to recycle them.

I was also disappointed that I received plastic forks and napkins because I thought I had selected the option to exclude them.

The food did not disappoint. It was amazing, like usual from Basil. My family was in a mood for noodles so we all ordered some version of vermicelli noodles. I also ordered a Banh Mi because even though it’s my favorite sandwich and I’ve probably eaten 100 of them, my family has never had one. Everyone was happy with their meal and we even had some leftovers for the next day. I’ll definitely be doing some more online ordering, and maybe even have it delivered again.
