A Gunfight in Everett - The Everett Massacre as told by Steve Bertrand +Soup Line Chili Buffet

Five IWW members (Industrial Workers of the World, often called “Wobblies”) and two deputies die in a gunbattle dubbed the Everett Massacre on November 5, 1916.

Join us and historian Steve Bertrand to explore why those aboard the Verona and those on the City Dock found themselves in a gunfight.

We’ll share a “Soup Line” including two types of chili, cornbread, salad and dessert. $15 Members and Guests.

Annotating the Everett Massacre

After the release of her feature documentary, Verona: The Story of the Everett Massacre in 2017, filmmaker Denise Ohio continued learning more about the shoot-out at the Everett City Dock on November 5, 1916. In her new project, the “Annotated Everett Massacre,” Ohio shares what she’s discovered, including new info from the transcript of the trial of IWW Tom Tracy, defense investigator notes, biographical details about participants from archives around the country, and more. Join us to explore how this new material sheds light on why those aboard the Verona and those on the City Dock found themselves in a gunfight.

We’ll share a “Soup Line” including chili stew, cornbread, and pie! RSVP by November 1st by email to historiceverett@gmail.com so we know how many guests to prepare food.

The Beginning of Evergreen Cemetery and Early Everett

Join Historic Everett and historian Gene Fosheim as we visit the early history of this remarkable cemetery. He’ll start with a 30-minute presentation about the lives of some of Everett’s most influential people and share stories of Everett’s rich heritage. Immediately after, everyone will be invited to do a short guided tour of the old section of the cemetery beginning at the Lych Gate with a walk up the hill to Rucker’s Tomb. Wear sturdy shoes as there may be some small hills and uneven ground. $10 Non-Members/$5 Members, tickets available on the website or at the event.
