3 Things to Love About the New YMCA

There it sits: up in the Glacier View Neighborhood — the large building of silver and glass, looking like a spaceship. A spaceship of personal fitness, that is.

It’s the much-awaited new Everett YMCA.

If you’ve never been to the old Y, the new building is a great place to discover. If you loved the old Y (I sure did) you will likely be pleasantly surprised by everything that the new place has to offer.

Here are three things you’ll love about the new YMCA.

It’s really really nice in there.

Well, duh, but it’s worth stating the obvious: 4730 Colby is a brand-new building with floor-to-ceiling windows (meaning plenty of natural daylight), state-of-the-art exercise machines, a brand new gym, a brand new pool, a fireplace, and complimentary coffee.

What does it mean to have a freshly-minted building in Everett? A lot, actually. Like Narrative Coffee, and Funko, the Y is new infrastructure that attracts people to our city for a visit. These new buildings are helping to change the public perception of our former mill town for the better.

You don’t have to be a Y member to use the YMCA pool.

The new pool facilities at the Y: there’s a lazy river, a giant hot tub, and a sauna. And, if you’re an Everett resident, you can get a pass to swim at the pool without becoming a member. Learn more here.

The weight room is huge!

It makes the community a better place.

The location of the new Y helps to unite North and South Everett in the Glacier Peak Neighborhood. Folks who live in the south end of town have easier access to this gem of a gym.

When I visit this place I see people of all fitness levels and body types sweating and laughing. The Y makes for healthier bods in the street of Everett. Not to mention the emotional and mental health benefits of exercise. Community connections are forged here through casual contact.

The new YMCA building is a matter of civic pride.

You owe it to yourself to go and take a gander. See what all the hype is about.

And, investors? Build your next modern building in Everett. People will come flocking to it. Trust me.
