Color Your World with Covenant Art Glass

Covenant Art Glass opened in 1979 after owners Stan and Colleen Price became frustrated with the lack of glass stores in the area.

With the Prices’ glassblowing background (they worked at the Pilchuck Glass School in Stanwood), they were uniquely qualified to run a much-needed glass shop in Everett.

After outgrowing two different spaces on Rucker, they built their own building at the corner of Broadway and 33rd.

Colleen Price feels their staying power comes from the business being set up not just as an art supply store, but an affordable activity as well.

"We teach classes, we sell supplies, we do commission work. In a way, it's an entertainment business," she explained. "When the economy gets bad, a couple of things can happen. People do not need stained glass in their house, but people don't tend to travel as much, and they need something that makes them feel good. “

”This can fill the bill. Through hard times and good times, one way or another, we've been able to eke out."

Examples are set up around the shop of the items you can make in their classes, and any tools you need are available to purchase in the shop.

They can help you choose the right project and let you know how much you'll spend in total before you commit.

With the holidays coming up, their classes give you several great gift options: make something to give someone, give someone a class they can take on their own, or go together.

Custom pieces are another option.

"They're just labor intensive. With custom work, if they have time, they would be better off to make them themselves. If not, we're happy to do it for them, but labor's not inexpensive." Colleen says nice stained glass work starts at $200-300 per square foot, so the potential for saving money doing it yourself is pretty great.

Another thing unique about Covenant is their specialization in painting on glass. Painted glass is fired in the kiln for durability and the technique allows for a lot more detail. My favorite pieces in the store were painted rather than fused or assembled as mosaics.
