Everett’s Cinnamon Roll Round-up

Beyond the ooey-gooey center of a cinnamon roll are only a few, but distinctive flavors.

Breading. Frosting. Cinnamon.

Yet there are endless combinations and variations of exactly how these doughy little wonders hit your taste buds. So we rolled up our sleeves and embarked upon a quest to sample Everett’s best cinnamon rolls.

It’s tough work, but somebody's gotta do it.

Choux Choux Bakery
Tasty with a Twist, $4.75*

The first stop was Choux Choux Bakery. Medium-sized dark glazed breading topped with almond infused icing. Their website also reports orange being in the mix, which added to this cinnamon roll's delicious but unique flavor.

Queen Esther and I both found the almond flavor to be even stronger than the cinnamon, leaving us wondering if a more appropriate name would be an “almond roll.” The breading was firm but chewy in a good way. It was Linda’s favorite cinnamon roll overall.

Karl’s Bakery
Dough Haven, $4.25*

We were delighted by how large Karl’s cinnamon rolls were for the price. They are definitely a good value. We found the frosting to be on the heavy side, but it was easy enough to scrape off. The cinnamon was great in the middle, but a bit tougher to detect on the outer layers. The breading really stole the show, though. Some of the most tender fluffy dough we’ve ever had. The cheerful packaging was a nice touch as well!

The New Mexicans
“Taste Like Mom’s,” $5*

Next stop was The New Mexicans. Deliciously well-balanced all around, including the perfect amount of frosting. They plastic wrap each cinnamon roll, so just make sure you don’t pull off too much frosting when you peel off the wrap!

These are easily big enough to share with a friend or few. Queen Esther says they “taste like Mom’s,” and they’ve been a long-time favorite of hers. I get her one for her birthday every year, and one time the New Mexicans even let me in before they were open and hooked me up for free. Hot dang, y'all are as sweet as your delicious cinnamon rolls!

Despi Delite Bakery
Day Old Deal, Four Cinnamon Rolls For $5*

When Linda first stopped by Despi they were out of cinnamon rolls. Queen Esther stopped by a week later, and they happened to have a four-pack of ‘day-old’ cinnamon rolls for only $5. The cinnamon rolls were medium size and had a classic, well-balanced flavor. Just the right amount of frosting, though I wouldn’t have minded a bit more cinnamon. All around, a tasty classic.

Totem Diner
Build Your Own, $6.95*

Probably the largest cinnamon roll of them all. It comes in a big plastic clamshell container with frosting and butter on the side; making it a “build-your-own” style experience. Queen Esther thought there was almost too much cinnamon, whereas Linda and I absolutely loved the amount of cinnamon (I’m not sure if I believe there’s such a thing as too much cinnamon!).

Queen Ester and I ate our cinnamon roll in the late afternoon and the insides were perfect. The exterior breading was a little dry on the one we had, so I added more frosting and butter which helped. In general with all the cinnamon rolls, I think the fresher it is, the better it's going to be. For how perfect the interior was and with the generous amount of cinnamon, this one was probably my personal favorite.

But we want to hear from you. What’s your favorite Everett cinnamon roll? Let us know in the comments 👇 or on Facebook.

For the record, we skipped Tyler’s Donuts, as their cinnamon roll is more of a donut style. Linda got her cinnamon rolls separately from Queen Esther and I (you know, social distancing). It varied how fresh each cinnamon roll was when we ate them, and even then one cinnamon roll might come out slightly different than the one that was baked next to it. So results may vary…you just might have to go try them for yourself!
