Summertime Delights on an Outdoor Deck: Cabernets & IPAs

Something small to know about me: I live in Everett on Mukilteo Boulevard. At least several of us who live along that stretch of road like to refer to ourselves as living in Everetteo (I've heard Mukett too but that sounds too much like some kind of small rodent borough to me. Shivers!) Technically, we live in Everett, but we do a lot down the road in Mukilteo. We especially do a lot of eating out at some of the yummy places in old Mukilteo. That's where you find Cabernets & IPAs or, as I'm going to also call them here, C&I.

While there is a lot to like about Cabernets & IPAs year-round, during the summer months they are hard to beat with their large outdoor patio featuring a killer view of our beautiful bay, surrounding mountains and boats coming and going at Mukilteo Beach. My last visit, we joined friends for a happy hour dinner which is one of my favorite things to do. It’s tough to beat noshing and sipping with your best friends in the Pacific Northwest sunshine.

At C&I, they offer a full bar and feature seasonal cocktails and mocktails. Right now, for instance, they have a delightful Frose which is a rose wine frozen to slushy form. Absolutely refreshing on a warm summer afternoon. On the flipside, however, they also currently highlight a Pickletini with vodka and pickle juice! Our server said it was popular, but I just cannot imagine. You’ll get no review on that from this reporter but if pickles are your thing – get on down to C&I.

Cabernets & IPAs has a full menu of food to choose from whether you are there for lunch, happy hour or a lingering sunset dinner by the outdoor fire. You can choose from eight different sandwiches and flatbreads; five salads and a wide selection of appetizers. For this time down, we tried the Margherita flatbread; tuna poke; and a big pile of nachos. My favorite was the flatbread. It was hot out of the oven with thick slices of tomatoes and generous slivers of fresh basil.

I rarely feel you can go wrong ordering nachos from anywhere and ours disappeared fast. We were less taken with the poke but only because we felt it needed a little more spice to it. Oh, and my go-to, just about every time we visit, is to get a bowl of the truffle popcorn. Total treat.

Adding to the fun at C&I, are Wednesday and Saturday nights when you can enjoy live music. Even our local celebrity musician who was a finalist on season 20 of The Voice, Savanna Woods, plays at C&I regularly. Music isn’t your thing? Are tacos? C&I has Taco Tuesdays every week that have their own devoted fans.

Wonderfully, just to top off a visit to Cabernets & IPAs, it is a quick walk down to Mukilteo Beach where you can sit and take in the delights of living here in our wonderful county in the Pacific Northwest.
