Women that Love to Fish: Sisters of the Reel

Being a new transplant to Everett from Chattanooga, Tennessee, I have been amazed at the wonderful sights and opportunities here. When you move to a new place it can be difficult to find new friends and people who share your interests, but that hasn't been an issue here in Everett! There are almost too many to choose from! Let me tell you about my favorite new facebook fishing group, Sisters of the Reel (Washington)

The group was founded in April of 2023 by Ingrid Jensen Bechtel and she added her administrator, Kelly Venable, soon after. Per Ingrid; "There are a lot of women that love to fish but it can be really hard to find each other, so I created a group for ladies to unite in a sport they love! This gives all of us a lot more opportunity to get out and fish safely with new friends without the fear of going into uncharted areas alone. We have some amazing ladies that jump at the chance to mentor each other and in so many different areas - rivers, lakes, saltwater, kayaking - we have it all! We love checking out new products and really focus on highlighting women owned fishing businesses. We plan lots of ladies only fishing charters and guided trips with trusted guides, and best of all, we have a ladies retreat each year. Our group is perfect for the most experienced, but really pride ourselves with introducing ladies of all ages to this amazing sport!"

Apparently, this is a popular group as it has already registered 1150 members!

Their future goals include volunteering the group for veteran's and children's fishing events. While I have only been a member for a short time, I have heard from members all over the state of Washington. Everyone in the group is friendly, and ready to regale you with their most recent catches.

There are guides in the group and newbies. Some have boats, some don't. You can always ask who is going out near you and will find quick responses.

The group is supportive and informative and fun! Let me encourage you to ask questions. There are so many helpful members who can answer almost all of your questions. They have sponsored a few events in Everett and I look forward to getting to the next one to meet folks in person. There are workshops and classes in multiple subjects.

New to the area or looking for fishing buddies? Let's go fishing! See ya at the Everett Fishing pier!
