Bad Abbott Burgers: A New Burger Joint We Didn’t Know We Needed
Everett’s got a handful of favorite burger places. Mikie’s, Ray’s and Nick’s Jr. topped out our 2019 Best Burger EVVY Awards. But there’s a new burger in town to make us rethink our favorite, Bad Abbott Burgers.
Working out of the kitchen at Buck’s American Cafe on Hewitt, Bad Abbott Burgers offers a simple menu of burgers and sides for takeout, curbside and delivery for lunch and dinner, Monday to Friday.
Buck’s owners used to run Abbott’s, one of Everett’s few fine dining restaurants. When the pandemic hit, I’m guessing they found that packaging presentation and ambiance in a takeout box was challenging and they closed the restaurant down. There is no doubt that they know how to run a small business though because they are back with a slick website, catchy tag line and a menu that’ll make you want to order burgers immediately.
So that’s exactly what I did.
My family wanted to try everything so I ordered a Bad Abbott Classic, Bad Mother Clucker and a Cap’n Ahab Burger. Beef, chicken and fish. I also added onion rings and fries to the order because they’re an important component of a burger meal, right? Their menu has options for gluten-free buns and lettuce wraps. You can also select which protein you want on several of the sandwiches. Impossible burgers are available too. They thought of everything.
I made sure everyone in my family got to taste each burger and they loved them all. The Bad Abbott Classic tasted like a backyard summer BBQ - differentiating it from Everett’s classic drive-in burgers. We got The Bad Mother Clucker fried, there is a grilled option too. The breading tasted like Thanksgiving stuffing and though not expected, very welcome. The Cap’n Ahab Burger had a hearty thick cut of beer-battered halibut. The only complaint I heard had to do with too many red onions, but luckily that’s a quick fix. Everything was excellent and when I order again, I’m not quite sure which one I’ll pick.
The onion rings were thickly cut so that you could really taste the sweet onion inside the beer batter. There was nothing notable about the fries, but every single one was eaten. I ordered just one side of each and the amount was perfect for the three of us to share. There are several other very appealing side options on the menu including Bacon Mac & Cheese and Garlic Cheese Curds.
Bad Abbott Burgers is a great addition to the Everett burger scene. It’s going on our burger rotation for when we want something different than classic drive-in burgers and don’t feel like firing up the backyard grill.
