Get Out of the House: Six Places in Everett to Get Some Work Done
As someone whose office is a laptop, I appreciate finding quality places around Everett to get out of the house and get a little work done. And perhaps a little treat now and then. While there are many options throughout Everett, here are six places I enjoy tickling the ol’ keyboard.
The Loft Coffee Bar
The Loft is one of my go-to spots to set up shop. There are good seating options, including a more secluded area around the back corner that is usually pretty quiet. If you need to plug in a charger, there are a few charging outlets scattered around, but not many so it's best to bring plenty of battery life. It also doesn’t hurt that the Loft has good coffee and friendly service.
The Waterfront
Here’s a more unorthodox option, and it doesn’t even require getting out of your car. Turn on your phone's hotspot and head to the Everett waterfront. Have you ever wondered what those two parking areas along Marine View Drive next to the water are for? I decided they’re for working with a view. Set up shop in the car while being entertained by seagulls and herons. Heck, if the weather’s nice and tides out, you could even find a rock and sit right on the beach.
Nadines Coffee
Oozing with style, this alley-entrance coffee shop has an intimate speakeasy vibe, which compliments their delicious coffee mocktails perfectly. It’s an inspiring space. The music selection is sometimes “Christian,” so fair warning if that’s not your sort of thing.. Seating can also get tight sometimes, but if a stylish environment with inventive coffees motivates you, you won't be disappointed at Nadines. And on the off-chance you absolutely can’t snag a seat, Narrative Coffee (see below) is conveniently located right across the street.
The Downtown Everett Public Library
The Library has loads of different seating areas, including a dedicated quiet work room upstairs. Also in the upstairs section, you can find tables that overlook the atrium. This is my favorite spot. The tall potted trees and epic rounded ceiling make for an inspiring space. And if you need to look anything up, you’ve got access to an entire library of information and resources ready to go!
The Milk House Coffee Co.
The Milk House opened in 2021 immediately east of the Totem Diner. This cool new shop is thoughtfully designed, with bar seating that has conveniently placed built-in outlets. In my experience, it’s not usually too busy, but the sound can travel a bit through the open layout and be on the noisier side at times. So if a quiet environment is your goal, just make sure they're not too busy before going heads down, or perhaps some bring some headphones as a backup plan.
Narrative Coffee
A little pricey, but oh so quality. And very delicious. Narrative can also get busy at times making seating challenging, but thankfully the bar by the window typically seems to be open. And conveniently it has a charging outlet right next to the bar. The big westerly windows provide great light and people watching on the sidewalk, just in case you need more distractions. Narrative also has the most robust food menu of anywhere on this list. Their breakfast sandwich and breakfast burrito are both the bomb. And their chocolate chip cookies are Everett-famous. And probably already Bellingham-famous by now thanks to Narrative’s new location (congrats on that, btw, Narrative!).
Think Tank Cowork
Okay, I haven’t actually been here, since I believe they’re not quite open yet. But this new cowork and event space in Downtown Everett has been coming to life on Wetmore, and is looking mighty sharp. Follow along on their socials. And something tells me … we’ll tell you once we hear they’re open. I’m really excited for this new addition to town.
Admittedly, the furthest South location on this list is the Milk House, which isn’t very far South. I rarely make it down to South Everett to work, since it’s a little out of the way for me. But I’m curious in general where you all like to work around town. Do you have a favorite place to pop open the laptop? Comment over on our Facebook and share the love.
Editor’s note: When using a local retail business as your office, remember to be courteous of other patrons by keeping your voice down and not spreading out too much. Don’t stay too long, buy something to help support the business and please keep your shoes on.
