Giorgio’s Pizza: My New Go-to Gourmet Pizza
For probably 25 years, my go-to gourmet pizza place has been Lombardo’s in Mukilteo, but early in the pandemic, the owners decided it was time to retire. Fair enough, but now I need to find a new place to get excellently crafted pizza.
There’s a ton of great pizza spots in Everett, but the closest one to me in south Everett is Giorgio’s Pizza on Evergreen Way, just south of Fred Meyer. I’ve heard a lot of great things about them and they’ve been around since 1982. That type of longevity doesn’t happen by chance. I know they’re a popular spot for end-of-season sports banquets and I’ve heard their salads are really good so I decided to give them a try.
GREAT ORDERING EXPERIENCE
I’m an introvert and REALLY love ordering online instead of talking to someone I don’t know. The online interface couldn’t be better. I ordered a medium Giorgio Combo minus green peppers. I appreciated that I was able to unselect pizza toppings I didn’t want. I also added a couple of salads, large green for my guys and a small Greek for me. I quickly received notification that my order would be ready in 35 minutes. Very reasonable.
ALL THE DELICIOUS SMELLS
The first thing I noticed when I opened the door to Giorgio’s was all the wonderful mouthwatering smells of an Italian restaurant, through my mask. It was quite an experience. Yum.
GREAT CUSTOMER SERVICE
I had opted to pay at the restaurant and notice that the total was higher than what I was expecting. I pulled out my email confirmation and they very quickly realized that they had inputted the Greek salad as a large. I offered to wait if they wanted to make a small salad, but they just adjusted the total and said to keep the large one. Great customer service.
PIZZA HOUSE SALADS
The salads were typical pizza house salads, with iceberg lettuce and pizza toppings, but I love these types of salads, crisp and practical with yummy flavors. I was a little concerned that I’d have California olives in my Greek salad, but nope, they were the kalamata olives that I love. I was disappointed that they didn’t offer greek dressing though. They had Italian dressing but that’s not the same. I went with honey mustard so it wasn’t exactly the salad I was expecting, but it was still crisp and refreshing.
HEARTY, ROBUST PIZZA
My son said “how does it taste so good with just cheese, sauce and crust?” The pizza did have a hefty layer of mozzarella with a golden top baked to perfection so I had to point out the meat layered underneath. Not that the cheese overwhelmed the other ingredients, but it’s obviously fresh, high-quality mozzarella.
We opted for the Giorgio Combo with pepperoni, Canadian bacon, salami, black olives, mushrooms, onions and mozzarella, minus the green bell peppers. The crust had a buttery flavor and fluffy texture. This is where it doesn’t come close to my Lombardo’s Stromboli crust that was a little sour and chewy. I don’t really love pizza crust though so I can get over this.
I was concerned that the size medium I ordered wouldn’t be enough for my family of three, but after we gobbled our salads, one slice of pizza was enough to fill us up.
We got a couple of pieces of garlic bread with our order. I didn’t order them so maybe they came with the salads. They were huge and looked promising but they didn’t have much garlic flavor and were pretty dry. It would have been excellent dipped in the killer pizza sauce though. I didn’t already mention it, but the pizza sauce was something special. I didn’t see it as a menu option, but next time I’ll ask for some on the side.
