Magic Monty Amazes All-Ages as Everett Improv Transforms into E.I. Bar and Stage

It's not every day you get to witness a magic show featuring a former NASA robotics engineer, a Guinness World Record holder, and a premier magician all rolled into one. But that's exactly what you'll get at Everett Improv's new all-ages monthly "Magic Monty" show.
I recently attended one of the first magic shows with my kiddo and was pleasantly surprised by the level of audience participation and Monty’s vast array of impressive magic tricks. Monty brought volunteers on stage, many of whom were kids, including my 4-year-old. I enjoyed the show as an adult, but I think the kids getting to engage with the magic tricks made it extra fun for the younger ones. My kid is still talking about it days later.
Monty, I learned, has quite a unique background. Not only is he a former NASA robotics engineer, but he's also been featured in the Guinness World Records for "farthest distance traveled using a powered exoskeleton." After breaking his back while serving as a US Army Ranger, he designed and built the powered robotic suit. And if that’s not superhuman enough for you, Monty will be back every month for a magic show featuring all new magic tricks.
Everett Improv, now rebranding as E.I. Bar and Stage, offers loads more than improv these days. They host a variety of events, including:
stand-up comedy shows
comedy open mics
spoken word open mics
karaoke
art installations
live music
classes
private parties and events
corporate events and workshops
school workshops
As the owner, Britney Barber, says, "We're doing a lot more events now, and rebranding as E.I. Bar and Stage because we felt that the improv name was holding us back. A lot of people don't know what improv is. We are trying to provide as much diverse local entertainment as possible so people can stay here and not give all their love to Seattle and King County."
Magic Monty isn’t the only new monthly show at E.I. Bar and Stage. They now host a live original local artist hip hop music showcase every month. “Word on the street says we are the ONLY live hip hop show in all of Snohomish County. I think that's pretty cool,” shared Britney.
The next hip hop show is on February 18, at 10 pm.
And let's not forget the tasty mocktails, cocktails, and bar food available at E.I. Bar and Stage. My kiddo enjoyed the color-changing "Magic Monty" mocktail (something else still being talked about days later). I opted for my first-ever espressotini, which reminded me of a White Russian in the best of ways. Plus, there was even free popcorn, which was surprisingly tasty.
While E.I. Bar and Stage is typically only open Thursday - Saturday, they are open until 2 am, which is a massive win for Everett's late-night scene.
So what are you waiting for? Check out their website for the next show to see what other exciting events have magically appeared at E.I. Bar and Stage.
PSST: E.I. Bar & Stage has a fun Valentine’s day live music event tonight called "Guys with Guitars." Enjoy live acoustic music by brooding dudes all night long.
