Drive-by Dinners at the Beverly Food Truck Park
When I first read about the Beverly Food Truck Park on MyEverettNews, it didn't really make sense to me. I associate food trucks with busy downtown areas where people can walk over on a lunch break, or places like the waterfront where you can enjoy your food with a view. So other than being a level, unoccupied lot, why would they park there? Turns out I'd skimmed right over the most important part of the article, which was the hours. This pod is open Monday-Saturday, 4-7 p.m., so it's the perfect spot to swing by and grab dinner.
Unless you really like surprises, there's no reason not to plan your visit and even order ahead using the Beverly Food Truck Park page on Street Food Finder. We chose a recent Tuesday and got to try Black Sea. The rest of the week looked awesome, too, with appearances by Mexicuban, Zaytoona, Yummy Box, Delfino's Pizza, and CRAVE by Suite J. Not knowing what time Order Ahead would start for the day, I eagerly refreshed the page throughout the day.
As it turns out, Black Sea starts accepting orders when they open at 4 p.m., and only on an ASAP basis. I put in our order and drove over to find plenty of parking and cones marking safe social distance for the line. They let me know my order would be ready in a couple of minutes and that I'd pick it up at the front of the truck, which is another great way to keep people spaced apart.

Unpacking the bag at home, I found our wrap and sandwich packed up nice and tight, perfect for if you were grabbing one to walk with or eat in your car. And that's where I recommend eating the fries if you get them; hand-cut fries should always be eaten hot.

The lamb in my kebab wrap could have used a little more spice in the mix, but with the delicious tzatziki, that wasn't an issue at all. I was also wowed by the sweet, crunchy onions and the big, soft pita it was all wrapped up in. The chicken in the schnitzel sub had a nice char on it, plus a garlic-lover's mayo you might ask them to hold if you'll be wearing a mask later on.

If waiting in line or lack of parking has stopped you from trying food trucks before, the Beverly Food Truck Lot is a great opportunity to give them a shot. I spent longer ordering ahead and getting dressed than I did waiting once I got there! It'll be interesting to see how they handle the darker hours in the coming weeks and whether they eventually add tables. Keep an eye on this great new dinner option and pop by next time you want to get out and try something new.
