The Show Must Go On, Digitally: Fisherman’s Village Music Festival 2020

Going on its seventh year, Everett’s Fisherman’s Village Music Festival brings us local, regional, and national acts that plick-a-plunk, drop that beat, rock n’ roll, and all that jazz. Around 3,000 people attended the festival last year, but with Governor Jay Inslee’s Stay at Home, Stay Safe Order, it’s time now for artists to do what they do best: get creative. 2020 is a year for adaptation—this year’s Fisherman’s Village Music Festival will go on, digitally.
For four nights October 28-31 an all-star lineup of twelve talented acts will dazzle your musical senses right in your own living room. Everett Music Initiative has prepared ten hours of “live” music, interviews, and surprise content. All the musical bands and guests were previously and safely recorded at the Everett Historic Theater.

I asked my friend Andrew of LAKE what it was like to record at the theater. He said it was the second time he had gotten to play with his band since touring in February. “It felt amazing! Beautiful venue, the sound on stage was great. We played there once before…but I had not previously noticed in the ‘also played here’ pictures in the green room, Nat King Cole played there in the 30’s. I’m a big fan of his pre-big-band-era drummerless trio, which would have been playing at that time, so that was really cool.” Really cool indeed.

Founder and head of the Everett Music Initiative, Ryan Crowther, says, “We’ve all seen A TON of acoustic performances filmed on an iPhone these last six months. We were able to get 12 artists to perform with a full band and the kind of footage and audio we were able to capture and deliver for this project is top-notch… I think these episodes do a good job of giving you a live show in your living room, but with engineered and produced audio that’s made for your home theater. I also think the interviews will give viewers a real glimpse at the life of artists over the last six months.”
